Our Khmer Buddhist Community
Rooted in the time of the Buddha over 2,600 years ago, the Khmer Buddhist community continues a living tradition of harmony between spiritual guidance and community support. From the earliest days of Buddhism, the Buddha established a balanced relationship between the Sangha and lay followers, grounded in mutual respect, ethical conduct, and shared responsibility.
As Theravāda Buddhism took root in the Khmer world, this structure naturally evolved to include trusted lay leadership to help care for temples and community affairs. The temple (wat) thus became not only a spiritual center, but also a place of organization, service, and collective decision-making.
Today, our community stands on three connected pillars:
the Monastic Sangha, who provide spiritual leadership and teachings;
the Lay Community, who actively support religious and cultural life; and
the Community Board, who serve with transparency and dedication to ensure the sustainable growth and well-being of the temple.
Together, we uphold the Buddha’s teachings and work in unity for the benefit, harmony, and future of our community.
One Temple. One Community. Three Pillars.
Monks guide the Dhamma. Lay members sustain the community. The Board supports organization and stewardship—working together in the spirit of the Buddha’s teachings.
